Make original customer research useful as evidence
Publish a customer study with clear methods, scope and limitations so readers can evaluate and reference the findings without losing their context.
Original customer research becomes useful evidence when another person can understand what was measured and what the result does not establish. A striking percentage without a method is difficult to evaluate. Design the publication while designing the study, rather than adding methodological notes after the headline is chosen.
Ask a question you can answer credibly
Choose a narrow problem your organization can investigate, such as where customers abandon a software setup task. Define the population, recruitment method and observation period. Explain whether participants are existing customers, prospects or volunteers. Those groups can produce different findings, so they should not be blended without explanation.
Keep the result attached to its denominator
Report counts alongside percentages and identify missing responses. Separate what participants said from what researchers observed. If a chart summarizes several groups, make the grouping rule visible. Avoid turning a small convenience sample into a statement about an entire industry.
Publish an accessible evidence page
Provide the core findings, method, limitations and a stable reference for the study. Offer an anonymized aggregate table when appropriate, without exposing personal or confidential data. A downloadable presentation can supplement the page, but the essential interpretation should remain readable without requesting access.
Let the evidence earn its role
Link the study from articles where it answers a relevant question. Track observed references and useful enquiries, but do not promise that publication will produce AI citations. The first test is whether an informed reader can judge the finding fairly. Research strengthens a platform when it contributes a clear, bounded observation rather than a promotional statistic dressed as independent evidence.
