Review AI ad copy in regulated markets before launch
Build claim approval into AI ad production for regulated markets, with traceable evidence, qualified reviewers and controls for later automated changes.
In a regulated market, a fluent rewrite can change the meaning of an approved claim. Shortening a sentence may remove a qualification; a friendlier headline may imply a guarantee. NIST’s generative AI profile offers voluntary risk-management guidance. [1] It does not provide legal clearance for an advertisement or replace the rules applying to its market and product.
Create an approved claim inventory
Ask the responsible product and legal specialists to define permitted claims, mandatory qualifications, evidence and expiry dates. Distinguish exact wording from text that may be paraphrased. For an illustrative insurance campaign, the generator must not turn conditional eligibility into universal acceptance. Keep examples of unacceptable transformations beside approved examples so reviewers can test meaning, not just prohibited words.
Constrain the generation task
Provide only the approved offer information needed for the campaign. Instruct the system to identify missing evidence instead of inventing it. Separate creative tone suggestions from factual edits. If an advertisement cannot fit a necessary qualification within the available format, escalate the format or claim choice. Removing the qualification is not a workable copy-editing solution.
Review the complete experience
Have a qualified reviewer inspect headline, body, image, destination and displayed conditions together. A technically accurate sentence can still create a misleading overall impression when paired with an exaggerated visual. Check the final mobile presentation, where truncation and small text can hide material information. Record the approved asset version and the markets for which it was reviewed.
Control changes after approval
Review any automatic text customization or destination expansion before enabling it. Set a process for withdrawing assets when terms change and verify that old variants stop serving. Log corrections and recurring failure types to improve the next brief. A review system is effective when it governs the live advertisement, including later adaptations, rather than only the draft that originally passed inspection.
