AI Search Practical insights
What marketers should test in interactive AI search
Evaluate interactive answers and search mini apps through real buyer tasks, separating announced capabilities from experiences your team can access.
An interactive answer can change what a visitor expects from a website. Someone who has already explored a comparison or calculator may arrive looking for the assumptions behind it. Marketers should investigate that transition before deciding to reproduce every new search interface on their own site.
Begin with a decision that benefits from interaction
Use an illustrative furniture purchase involving room dimensions, delivery access and several configurations. A static explanation may be enough for some questions; an interactive layout could help with others. Define what a useful experience would let the buyer understand or compare. Do not assume that interaction is valuable simply because it is possible.
Distinguish announcement from observed behavior
Google’s 2026 Search announcement describes generative interfaces and mini apps, with staged availability. [1] Record which experience your team actually accessed, when and under what account conditions. If access is unavailable, present the work as a proposed test rather than a hands-on review. Screenshots and invented performance claims cannot substitute for observation.
Inspect the assumptions behind the output
Check which dimensions, prices or constraints the experience uses. Can the buyer identify the source and recognize missing information? In the furniture example, a layout that ignores door width may look convincing while failing the delivery task. The merchant’s website should provide authoritative specifications that support or correct the interactive result.
Choose the useful website response
Improve the underlying evidence first. Add an on-site interactive tool only when it solves a recurring customer problem and can be maintained accurately. Compare task success with a simpler explanation before investing further. The opportunity is to help buyers verify and act on a decision, not to add an expensive visual feature that duplicates work already done elsewhere.
